The Volunteer of the Year Awards recognizes a volunteer who generously gives their time and talents and provides valuable contributions to W2RO and the waste and recycling sector. This award was created to recognize the extensive hours that volunteers contribute to ensure the continued success of W2RO.
Larry Fedec has been actively involved with W2RO and its predecessor organization, the Ontario Waste Management Association, for the duration of his professional career, spanning more than 35 years.
A significant component of Larry’s volunteer leadership has been his role as Co-Chair of the Transfer Station & Disposal Committee for several years. In this role, Larry helped guide discussion on some of the sector’s most pressing issues, supported evidence-based dialogue among members, and ensured the committee remained an important forum for technical expertise, policy discussion, and sector alignment.
Larry has also made key technical and strategic contributions to W2RO’s work on landfill capacity. He contributed to and peer reviewed both the current Landfill Capacity Report and its previous iteration, providing credibility, analytical rigor, and practical insight to work that is foundational to provincial planning and advocacy. In addition, Larry has frequently shared his expertise by presenting at W2RO conferences and annual general meetings on landfill capacity challenges, permitting, and long-term disposal planning – subjects critical to the sustainability of Ontario’s waste management system.
