The Ontario Waste Management Association provided 2 submissions on October 7th to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in response to the ECCC Consultation paper titled a proposed federal plastics registry for producers of plastic products and the Consultation paper titled Towards Canada-wide rules to strengthen recycling and composting of plastics through accurate labelling.
These submissions support the intent of the consultation paper to strengthen the rules around accurate labelling for recycling and composting of plastics as well as supporting these objectives outlined in the discussion paper regarding a plastics registry to:
• provide comprehensive and comparable information,
• provide baselines for future Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) work,
• mechanisms to support compliance with EPR,
• inform and encourage investment along the plastics lifecycle.
